Ways to reuse

How many of us have things lying around the house, shed or garage that we just don`t use anymore?

Instead of having a throw out into a skip or the bin, what about giving it away instead?

No matter what you have it`s just possible that someone out there will have a use for what you may consider junk. If you can`t sell it you can give it away for free.

Check out social media such as facebook for pages that let you source and give away items for free.

There are many organisations out there that will take items away, you can donate to charity shops or other worthwhile causes. For a list of charity shops and other reuse organisations visit our Charity Shop and Reuse Map of Cumbria or visit the charity retail association to locate your nearest shop.

You could also make use of your local Freecycle or Freegle group. You can donate items or even pick up something useful that you may have been looking for yourself. Both organisations ask you to join up for free to a local group or groups.

And now using Freegle is even easier with their brand new app. You can to offer an unwanted item along with a photo and anyone interested will get back in touch by email - or you can respond in the app. Similarly, you can request something that you want and people may offer you it. The app also has a list of community events in your area and a list of alternative reuse options. Download the app at the app store or by visiting https://www.ilovefreegle.org/mobile. And of course, the app is completely free.

Freegle is the national "free to a good home" portal and we have some well subscribed networks operating in Cumbria. Just click on one of the links below.
